NOVEMBER 2007 Oktoberfest in Scott's Valley - Friday, Nov. 2 Yes you read that right. The Sunset Sunday for October is not only being held on a Friday but it's being held in November. In fact they are one of the only bands in the US to be invited to Munich to celebrate Oktoberfest with the Germans. Now that's an honor. Every year they fire up the old style Fresnel lens at the Pigeon Point lighthouse near Pescadero... I've seen pictures... it looks amazing... I look forward to seeing it in person. I propose we start the day with a hike at Butano State Park 5-8 mile hike through coastal redwood forest. Afterwards out to the coast for a late afternoon picnic as we wait to witness the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Anniversary Lighting. You can participate in the hike the picnic or both. If you would like to carpool…( it's a drive… you'll want to…) please RSVP early. I will add your name to the email list. Please indicate…. 1) Hiker/ Lighthouse, or both if you want to carpool.... 2) What area you will be driving from 3) Indicate diver, passenger, or either. It will be your responsibility to communicate directly with those on the list to set up rides. ~Hikers will meet at Butano at 10:30 am ~Lighthouse viewers meet at the lighthouse at 3 pm (I know it early....that's the recommendation if you want to find parking.) Heidi =) Kai ma na v @ a o l dot com Pigeon Point Light Station Anniversary Lighting The annual lighting of the 1st Order Fresnel lens happened on the anniversary of the Light House. It event occurs on the Saturday closest to the November 15, 1872 anniversary date and lasts all day. It culminates in the lighting of the Fresnel Lens which lasts from 6 pm until 8 pm. The event is highly anticipated and last year was attended by over 4,000 visitors. Alpine Inn Beer Garden Join the BAF gang from 3-6 PM. Look for the Blue Balloons! The place closes Sundays at 6 PM, so don't be fashionably late! Newbies always welcome! We'll also do a nearby hike 1-3 weather-permitting. Meet at Alpine Inn parking lot Between 12:30 and 1:00. If you get lost call Alpine Inn 650-854-4004 since cell phone reception is so-so there. The place has draft beers, a juke box and the dude on the phone was really friendly. There is street parking. Here's a review from Yelp: "I thought it to be a difficult question when someone asks, what is your favorite bar... Now I know and it isn't hard to say, Savoy! They have everything. Great crowds, pool tables, outdoor (kind of outdoor) seating, People watching spot galore, and cocktails!" It's cash only but there is an atm inside and one across the street too :) Technically they don't have a happy hour but schnapps always goes for $1.50.
